2. How often will the survey be conducted?

The survey will be conducted bi-annually.

3. Why was the Factum Global Business Sentiment Survey created?

The Factum Global Business Sentiment Survey was created to measure international business sentiments of executives around the world and to contribute original research to aid in decision making for those working internationally.

4. What is the significance of the Factum Global Business Sentiment Survey?

After recent years of unprecedented global events, businesses are emerging from the heavy toll of multiple public health crises and uncertain macroeconomic conditions. Findings from the survey will focus on how global executives view the state of global business and what it means for their organization.

5. Are there other surveys conducted on the outlook for global business?

Yes, other surveys may exist but the Factum Global Business Sentiment Survey has varied questions and presents unique data from a different universe of executive respondents around the world.

6. What types of questions were asked in the survey?

The questions were based on five key indicators that measure respondents’ perceived morality, risk tolerance, globalization business plans, global organizational performance, and macroeconomic expectations.

Questions included the following:

  • How does the respondent feel about the world of global business?
  • Does the respondent have a positive view on their organization’s performance globally?
  • Does the respondent think it is too risky for their organization to continue or increase business with international counterparts?
  • Does the respondent’s organization have plans to continue or increase international activities in the next 6 months?
  • Based on how respondents view the current global economy will fare in the next 6 months, is international business good for the respondent’s organization?

7. How many people answered the survey?

174 people answered the survey, with 151 executive leaders fully completing and 23 partially completing the survey. 116 unique results formed the basis for the resulting report.

8. Who answered the survey?

Respondents have some experience in international business and represented the full range of regions, industries, and company sizes.

  • Of the 101 who voluntarily provided their organizational information, over 84% came from executive leaders in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) (< 1000 employees).
  • Respondents were geographically diverse from North America (55%), Latin America (14%, Europe (13%), Asia-Pacific (9%), Sub-Saharan Africa (6%), Middle East North Africa (3%).

11. What is the Factum Global Business Sentiment Index?

The total Factum Global Business Sentiment Index score measures executive sentiment, on a scale of -1 (most negative) to 1 (most positive), based on five key indicators that measure respondents’ perceived morality, risk tolerance, globalization business plans, global organizational performance, and macroeconomic expectations.

12. How was the Factum Global Business Sentiment Index calculated?

To calculate the Factum Global Business Sentiment Index, responses to the five key business-oriented variables are organized in graded polarity categories to include varying levels of positive and pessimistic sentiment and then normalized based on total complete, unique responses. To adjust for differences in response rates, the data is weighted based on the relative distribution of responses by either role or region to total complete, unique responses. Complete, unique responses indicate that respondents have fully answered all required questions but may not have shared their contact or company information.
